How to Identify Original Seagate Hard Drive
In order to avoid buying counterfeit Seagate hard drives, we hereby share the identification method
1. Check whether the appearance label is intact and there are no traces of wear or stains
If it is a counterfeit hard disk, the printing quality of the label sticker is different from the original one, and the font is blurred
2. Check whether the serial number SN exactly matches the hard disk model
Please open Seagate https://www.seagate.com/gb/en/support/warranty-and-replacements/
Enter the SN, the OEM version will be recognized as a red font or Not Under Warranty by Seagate. Please Contact Place of Purchase.
If it is a retail version, it will be identifiable as the warranty period and region, if it is not a regional warranty, the warranty will be replaced by the dealer
If the SN is unidentifiable or invalid, the hard disk may be a refurbished or counterfeit product
But another situation is a new hard disk manufactured by the factory, such as 2 months, there will be some delay in updating the SN to the Seagate warranty check
3.Price: Too low a price is often not a brand new product. If you want a great value for money, then bring a non-brand new product. If your data is very precious and important, please choose Seagate original products. Please see our description. We mainly sell Seagate original hard drives. Selected suppliers ensure that the data is not tampered with and forged.
4.
Seagate HDD Farm Check
Recent reports have revealed cases of used Seagate hard drives being sold as new. This tool helps identify such cases by comparing two different power-on hour counters that are specific to Seagate drives:
- SMART Power-On Hours: The standard SMART attribute tracking total power-on time
- FARM Power-On Hours: A separate counter in Seagate's proprietary FARM log
In legitimate new Seagate drives, these values should be nearly identical. A significant difference between these counters may indicate a used drive being sold as new.
- Uses smartmontools to read both SMART and FARM power-on hour values
- Detects if the drive is a Seagate drive by checking for FARM data
- For Seagate drives:
- Calculates the absolute difference between SMART and FARM values
- Reports PASS if the difference is 20 hour or less
- Reports FAIL if the difference is greater, indicating possible tampering
